The movie begins with Aditya "Adi" Bhardwaj (Shahid Kapoor), a depressed and unsuccessful writer who is returning to his hometown of Chandigarh after a failed stint in Delhi. On the train, he meets Geet (Kareena Kapoor Khan), a free-spirited and cheerful young woman who is traveling to the same destination. As they strike up a conversation, Adi learns that Geet is getting married to a man she doesn't love, and he decides to accompany her to Chandigarh to prevent the wedding.
