Piotrek’s journey is one of dual awakening. Externally, he navigates the typical markers of adolescence: the freedom of long days spent with peers and his first romantic attraction to a girl named Majka. These scenes are bathed in a nostalgic, golden-hued cinematography that mirrors the idealized "memory" of youth. However, this brightness is constantly undercut by an internal, darker awakening. As Piotrek begins to spy on his mother, the "detective" nature of his childhood curiosity turns into a burden of adult knowledge that he is not yet equipped to carry.
