But then, the film began to change. The scene shifted to a Gotham that looked suspiciously like Chennai’s T. Nagar during rush hour. Batman was chasing Scarecrow, but Scarecrow was wearing a torn veshti and a helmet. Crowds of extras pointed at the camera and shouted, "Tamilyogi la irundhu paathoma!" (We watched it on Tamilyogi!)
The pixelated Batman—now fused with Kavin’s own face—spoke one last line, in Christopher Nolan’s original voice:
That night, he loaded the file onto his laptop. The opening scene played—the bank heist. But the sound was wrong. The Joker wasn't speaking Heath Ledger’s rasp. He was speaking fluent, vulgar Madras Tamil.
