The Rights movement argues that welfare is a trap. They call it the "Happy Meat" delusion. By making animal agriculture slightly less awful, welfarists allow the public to sleep easier at night, thereby prolonging the overall system of domination. Peter Singer himself has noted that if everyone switched to "free-range," factory farms would still exist, and more animals would suffer overall because free-range requires more land and slower growth times.
