The movie takes place in 1877, during the Meiji era in Japan. The story follows the journey of Himura Kenshin (played by Sosuke Igarashi), a former assassin known as "Hitokiri Battosai" who has vowed to protect the people of Tokyo. After the Meiji Revolution, Kenshin decides to live a peaceful life, but his past catches up with him in the form of a young woman named Kaori (played by Mikako Takahashi), who is being pursued by a group of revenge-seeking samurai.
