Since Lanthimos films his actors speaking in monotone whispers, AAC preserves the frequency range necessary to hear the unnatural cadence of their voices without dynamic range compression. For the home viewer without a 5.1 surround system, a high-bitrate stereo AAC track is superior to a poorly downmixed DTS track.
